Capri Island / Amalfi Coast

Our first tour off the Carnival Dream ship was to Capri Island and the Amalfi Coast! (the two most famous places in Italy among others) We ported in Naples and hopped onto a jetfoil boat and rode for about 45 minutes. We arrived to lovely and serene Capri Island. Shops lined the narrow cobblestone streets. It was beautiful! The sun was hot and you could almost breathe the laziness of the island. We had a lovely Italian lunch at Hotel Regina Christina complete with a glass of wine - of course! Some celebrities actually have a home on this island. Capri Island is extremely popular and busy during the tourist season with lots to offer for everyone!

Arriving at Marina Grande

Overlooking Marina Grande and the town

Marina Piccola

Island paradise! -hibiscus flower

One of the many beautiful homes

Lemons galore!

The famous Faraglioni Rocks (3 "cones) to the left and Capri Island to the right. We were departing Capri Island and cruisin' the Amalfi Coast!!

Beautiful Amalfi coast lined with homes and hotels.

A mansion on the coast..

We stopped at the little town of Amalfi and wandered through the market here. Viewed the magnificent facade of a 12th century cathedral and enjoyed an Italian ice cream - gelato!! YUM!

Of course on the Amalfi coast, the roads are very narrow and winding and cliff to one side! I applauded our bus driver for driving such conditions and squeezing through traffic. No wonder many Italians drive a moped or motorcycle!!

Our final sight before heading to the cameo factory and back to the ship! Mount Vesuvius.. 1/3rd the size now since the eruption in 79 AD. Pompeii was nearby.

There was so much we wanted to see on this tour including Pompeii and more of Capri Island. Couldn't fit it all in one day. Mom and I loved this tour! It was a fantastic day!
